About The Boardwalk - Sheffield

The Boardwalk, Snig Hill, Sheffield, S3 8NA

Dear loyal supporter of live music, unfortunately due to circumstances out of everyones control The Boardwalk will need to close until the end of 2010. The ownership of the venue has changed and due to an unforeseen legal loophole we cant open at the moment. The venue will open refreshed and full of life again early 2011.

Hidden behind the main part of Sheffield's city centre is a music venue made of the stuff others can only dream of. Home to legends and locals alike, the Boardwalk is Sheffield's very own Cavern, a fifty year old music venue that has seen some of the greatest acts in music history pass through its doors, and is still going strong in the 21st century.

First, a little history lesson for all you budding musos. Known at various times as the Black Swan and the Mucky Duck, The Boardwalk has seen Genesis, AC/DC, the Sex Pistols and the Clash (their first gig!), and more recently David Gray and Ryan Adams perform onstage.

And it doesn't even limit itself to one style of music - you'll find rock, blues, acoustic, heavy metal, thrash metal, nu metal, country, folk, world music and anything else you can think of. The Boardwalk is hallowed ground, and as such deserves regular pilgrimages from anyone in Sheffield who wants to hear great music.

The emphasis is still on giving Sheffield quality live music seven days a week. With an acoustic night every fortnight, regular local unsigned acts during the week, as well as more established bands on tours across the country, variety is the key.
